Our goal in any data migration is simple: to make the process as seamless as possible for our clients. To do so, we treat every project individually, analyzing the specific attributes and limiting factors that could influence protocol, direction, or longevity. Once the project is properly analyzed, we discuss the available options with your team and offer a strategic plan that meets your needs.
Our Complete Solutions
Pre Sales Assistance
Knowledgeable, qualified resources are available to help determine the project objectives, viable options and best implementation practices. These services include conference calls, data examination and on-site visits.
Setup, Installation and Testing
DataFirst migration services are truly turnkey, employing all required resources necessary to build, deliver install and verify that the migration “data pipeline” is communicating effectively.
Project Management
The Project Management Level indicates how involved DataFirst is to be during the project. Each Project Management level provides the same types of monitoring, support, and reporting; however, the frequency varies. DataFirst offers daily, weekly and monthly packages.
Lifecycle Project Monitoring
Migration project managers are introduced early in the process and are dedicated to overseeing each individual project. The project is broken down into several phases and reports describing the status of each of these phases are produced and shared with the team by the project manager.
Comprehensive Documentation
Each project is approached individually to ensure it receives the attention it deserves. The core attributes are matched with the custom requirements to build a detailed view of the objectives, responsibilities and deliverables.
Intermediate Storage Buffer
To ensure safety and provide data redundancy, all projects include a storage device capable of housing a large portion of the data being migrated. This strategy helps projects continue forward when either the legacy DICOM system or target DICOM system experiences a difficulty.
Media Management Assistance
Conventional migration strategies require all data to be online and available to the requesting migration computer. In many cases this is not an automated process since it requires someone to load specific media batches systematically into a legacy archive or “jukebox”. Once the specific pieces of media are inserted into the jukebox, the data are considered online and available for retrieval and automatic transmission to the migration CPU. The coordination of media into batches, loading and unloading of the legacy device and ultimately making data available to the migration system is referred to as “Media Management”. DataFirst offers on-site media management services for facilities that prefer to focus on clinical related tasks.
- Did you know?
- DataFirst has successfully performed hundreds of data migrations, involving petabytes (1,000TB+) of data.
Styles of Data Migration
Our turnkey solutions are available in several “styles” and can be adapted to the unique needs of your facility.
DICOM to DICOM (Cross Vendor)
DataFirst can communicate with the legacy system using standard DICOM Query/Retrieve (Q/R) Communications. This is the most common form of image migration as most systems speak some variation of Q/R. Although all systems are different, our mature DICOM migration tools have been designed to interact with effectively any system that claims Q/R functionality.
Semi-DICOM to DICOM
These systems are not DICOM compliant but do maintain their data in formats that can be read by external processes. DataFirst can read the existing data and populate any required fields, thus making the data compliant and useable for the target system. These image studies are then sent to a target DICOM server using standard DICOM communications.
Archive to Archive
This technique is used to move data off of a legacy storage technology, such as an MOD or DVD jukebox to a new supported storage solution. DataFirst reads the data directly from the legacy storage technology and sends them to a new archive solution. The end result is a “storage refresh“ that brings the solution current, removes costly fees associated with the legacy technology and utilizes the existing DICOM Server technology.
Hyper-Migration
DataFirst Hyper-Migration is an upgrade option to conventional DICOM data migration. For organizations that can benefit from the service, DataFirst moves data from the legacy PACS system to the target system rapidly and can offer tangible business benefits, including:
- Expedites the migration process, dramatically reducing project longevity
- Requires only minimal resources during initial setup and none ongoing
- Eliminates the need to maintain “jukebox” or DICOM server throughout the project
- Reads data in a parallel fashion, rather than file by file as in conventional strategies
